Ultimate Cell Trial on Mercedes BTCC Logistics Truck: Verified Efficiency & Emissions Reduction

Assessing the impact of ULTIMATE CELL®“Hydrogen-on-Demand” Technology on a Mercedes Logistics Truck – WL64 HBL with Árón Taylor-Smith Racing (BTCC)

 

Trial Overview

In the 2025 BTCC season, Ultimate Cell UK Ltd partnered with professional racing driver Árón Taylor-Smith to test the impact of hydrogen-on-demand technology on the team’s Mercedes logistics support truck (WL64 HBL). This heavy-duty vehicle transports race cars, equipment, and pitwall infrastructure across all UK rounds of the championship.

After collecting several weeks of baseline, performance data, two Triple Ultimate Cell®,units (six cells in total) were installed on 23 May 2025, allowing a direct comparison between pre-install and post-install fuel performance during real-world race logistics.

 

Key Outcomes

33% Improvement in Fuel Efficiency

Across all journeys following installation:

  • Miles per litre increased from 1.61 → 2.10
  • MPG increased from 7.31 → 9.54 MPG
  • Equivalent to a +33.8% improvement in overall efficiency
  • These results remained consistent across varying terrains, distances, and payloads typical of BTCC operations.

  • Baseline efficiency: 1.61 mpl → 2,484 litres required

CO2 Reduction

  • Every litre of diesel saved avoids 2.68 kg CO2.
